Annie's Grandma's Farmhouse White Bread
| |
From the Houzz Cooking Forum, this is Annie's Grandma's Farmhouse White Bread recipe. It's a hearty bread that's perfect for French Toast. This can be made by hand or in the bread machine. If you use a bread machine, add the liquid ingredients first.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 package or 2-1/4 teaspoons of yeast
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 4-1/2 cups bread flour
Process:
- By hand: mix the milk, butter, and sugar until the butter melts and the liquid is very warm. Add eggs, then beat in the flour and yeast until stiff dough forms.
- Bread machine: liquids first then add the yeast and let it sit for a few minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients with the exception of 1/2 cup of flour. Add that as needed until you get a nice firm ball of dough.
- Turn the dough into a greased bowl and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles - about an hour.
- Punch it down and divide it into two small loaves or leave it as one large sammich size loaf and place it into a greased meatloaf pan to rise again for an hour.
- Baked at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes until the top starts to brown.
